CAF fines FKF Sh6.5 million over security breaches at Kasarani
CAF’s Disciplinary Board found FKF guilty of failing to meet stadium safety requirements and warned that continued lapses could see Kenya’s national team matches moved to alternative venues.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been fined Sh6.5 million ($50,000) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for multiple safety and security breaches during the Harambee Stars’ CHAN 2024 match against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The governing body also directed FKF to strengthen security by deploying more personnel within the stadium perimeter and enforcing road closures on match days.
The sanction follows earlier warnings and a Sh2.5 million fine for similar incidents during Kenya’s tournament opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on August 3.
As part of additional measures, CAF has capped attendance for Kenya’s remaining home matches at Kasarani to 27,000 spectators, 60 per cent of the venue’s capacity, with access strictly limited to electronic ticket holders. Thermal paper tickets are now banned.
The restrictions come in response to repeated crowd control failures, including fans breaching gates without tickets, perimeter fence overruns, inadequate police intervention, and unsafe conditions inside and around the stadium.
